On September 26, 2024, the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University hosted Unspeakable: Ten Years After Ayotzinapa, commemorating a decade since the mass disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa in Iguala, Mexico. The event featured keynote speaker Claudio Lomnitz, who reflected on Ayotzinapa as an emblem of state violence and systemic injustice, exploring its cultural and political implications.
Other speakers included investigative journalist Anabel Hernández, author of A Massacre in Mexico: The True Story Behind the Missing Forty Three; Professor Diane E. Davis, an expert in urban sociology and Co-Chair of the Mexico Studies Program at the Center; and Professor Oswaldo Zavala, a scholar on Mexican politics and culture. The event was introduced by Alejandra Vela Martínez and moderated by Andrea Garza Erdmann.
